The Faculty of Economics at Kardan University organized a 'Symposium on SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth' on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, in Conference Hall Taimani Campus. The session's focus was on how to achieve SDG8, which requires collective efforts of governments, universities, students, civil society, and every other institution.
Mr. Sohrab Bahman, Economic Advisor and Spokesperson at the Ministry of Economy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, attended the meeting and delivered an informative speech on achieving the SDG8. He stated that everyone, particularly students, is responsible for implementing this global mission.
He further added that by becoming job creators, we could significantly impact decent work. The public sector alone can never individually implement SDG8—the extensive private sector support is of paramount importance in achieving this goal. Meanwhile, Sajida Muhammad Tayeb, Rafiq Mukhlis, and Jaohar Massoodi, Assistant Professors at Kardan University, presented their papers on SDG8.
"One reason behind massive unemployment in the country is the mismatch of the university curriculum and the market's technical skills demand. This needs immediate attention to help mitigate the unemployment rate in the country," said Izhar, a bachelor of Economics student at Kardan University.
"Kardan University updates its curriculum every five years based on market needs—and to help the students gain the required knowledge and skills as they enter the job market in this very competitive age," said Professor Mssoodi.
