A Study of the Role of Tourism in the Reduction of Poverty and Economic Growth
On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Kardan University's Department of Research and Development (DRD), in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics, hosted a Special Seminar moderated by Dr. Peerzada Tufail Ahmad. During the seminar, Dr. Mohd Asif Shah presented his patent research paper titled "A Study of the Role of Tourism in the Reduction of Poverty and Economic Growth." This presentation underscored the pivotal role of tourism in poverty alleviation and economic advancement.
Dr. Shah's presentation detailed the findings and implications of his research, emphasizing the critical role that tourism plays in mitigating poverty and fostering economic development. He noted that the substantial growth of the tourism sector over recent decades has garnered recognition from both international organizations, such as the United Nations, and national governments worldwide. Furthermore, Dr. Shah highlighted the considerable potential for future expansion in the tourism industry, thereby reinforcing its credibility and anticipated impact.
The seminar was attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. Abdul Latif Nazari, Deputy Minister (Technical) of the Ministry of Economy, along with a delegation from the Ministry of Information and Culture, as well as faculty members and students of Kardan University.
In his remarks, Dr. Abdul Latif Nazari expressed gratitude to Kardan University for hosting such a significant event. He emphasized the importance of these events for the growth and development of Afghanistan and highlighted the essential role of higher education in this context.
Khawja Jamshid Seddiq, Vice Chancellor of Kardan University, provided the rationale behind the seminar and elaborated on the significance of tourism for Afghanistan’s development. He also highlighted the ongoing activities of the DRD and outlined upcoming events organized by the department.
The seminar concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, during which Dr. Shah addressed several pertinent queries. Key questions included the potential challenges associated with implementing tourism as a strategy for poverty reduction, the role of government in promoting tourism, and the long-term sustainability of the tourism sector.
The event was formally concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kalimullah Khan, a senior faculty member at Kardan University.
