1. How would Kardan University help students with the internet connection costs?

As per the latest Financial Assistance packages announced by the University leadership, students will be able to cover their internet connection costs through the financial assistance they receive. Please check the Latest Updates section for more details.

2. Which application should students use to join online sessions?

Students can participate in online sessions using the Zoom Conferencing Application zoom.us/support/download. To learn more about how to join a meeting on Zoom, visit support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-Joining-a-Meeting you will receive a meeting ID number or URL from your professors through which you get access.

3. Which platform does the University use for online Education?

Kardan University uses the Learning Management System (LMS) and Zoom Conferencing Software which is one of the most advanced learnings and teaching platforms globally.

4. Please tell me what is LMS and why Kardan University is using it

Learning Management System (LMS) is one of the most advanced learnings and teaching platforms in the country, along with modern interactive platforms to deliver quality higher education. Kardan University utilizes LMS to provide the student all learning materials including, research papers, publications, discussion forums, recorded videos and more.

5. How are students’ attendance taken in the online system?

As long as students participate in an online session, their attendance will be automatically captured in the system.

6. How can students get the meeting ID?

The Program Officers kardan.edu.af/OnlineEducation/Contact-Details.aspx will share with you the contact information of the professors. You will have to communicate with them through WhatsApp and ask them to add you to the group, where lecturers share the meeting ID with the students.

7. How can students with poor internet connection participate in online classes?

Lecturers will audio record the session and upload them on the student portal or YouTube at the end of each session. This way, students with a poor internet connection can benefit using the recorded audios on the student portal at Kardan University’s website.

8. How can students ask questions from their respective lecturers regarding a lesson?

Students have the flexibility to ask questions from their teachers during or at the end of the session (Question-Answer Session). Meanwhile, Zoom Application provides an option for you to “raise your hand” and the lecturer will unmute your voice after receiving your notification. 9. Will Online Education be a practical and useful approach?

10. What is the difference between using Zoom and Youtube for education?

Zoom is a web-based video conferencing tool designed to connect multiple individuals and groups together with minimum internet speed requirements and good quality video and audio, be it a conference, meeting or an online class. Whereas YouTube is an online video-sharing platform that allows users to upload, watch, like and comment videos on a variety of topics.

11. The videos are uploaded but there is no voice.

Such technical problems should directly be referred to the respective teachers since the problem occurs while recording the lecture. The technical team will provide support for the teachers to solve the problems.

12. I tried several times to join the meeting but the host was in another meeting.

13. I need information about Kardan University’s Online Education System

16. How are numerical and mathematical subjects going to be taught?

like any other subject, we will put more emphasis on mathematically related subjects while conducting online sessions so that students could get a good grasp of the subject matter. Teachers will upload videos on YouTube and the student portal so that students will have the flexibility to watch the videos anytime they wish to.

17. Do scholarship holders have to pay the first installment to receive the internet?

All students are required to pay their first installment in order to receive an internet allowance (top-up credit card).

18. If the COVID-19 situation continues, what other alternative solution will the university provide?

The online education system is the best solution for the time being, and we are looking for opportunities to overcome the current challenges and help students continue their studies. You will be updated about the improvements through social media in a timely manner.

19. When are the makeup exams going to be taken?

The terminal makeup exams are postponed until further notification. Please contact your Program Academic Administrator and follow our Facebook page for further information?

20. I haven’t paid my first installment and I have not received top-up cards for this month. Can I still receive it next month?

Yes, you will receive the top-up the card as soon as you pay the next installment. Or else, you can get your top-up card from the Cashier’s desk in Parwan-e-Du Campus.

21. How long the Online Education will continue?

Online Education system will continue as long as the COVID-19 situation threatens the safety of our people and society, and further updates will be provided as per the instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education.

22. Do first semester students need to get register for online education?

Yes, students from all semesters have the option to get online education from Kardan University

23. Since the university is off, how can I process my installment fees?

The University is officially off due to the COVID-19 situation, however, you can still visit Parwan-e-Du Campus and pay your first installment.

Questions Concerning COVID-19

1. What is Coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that originate in animals but are known to cause respiratory illness in humans, particularly during the fall and winter months. Other novel coronaviruses have included Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV).

In January 2020, a novel (new) coronavirus (COVID-19) was identified as the cause of an outbreak of pneumonia originating in Wuhan, China.

2. What is the risk?

The situation is rapidly evolving and the University has been monitoring the situation very closely and taking action as necessary in light of the global situation, the advice of public health authorities and the interests of our community.

The risk of more severe illness may be higher for individuals with weakened immune systems such as older people or those with chronic diseases such as diabetes or heart, renal or chronic lung disease.

3. What should I do if I have flu-like symptoms?

Everyone should stay home, not work, and self-isolate if they have flu-like symptoms.

If you are a faculty or staff member and you are sick or self-isolating, you should contact the HR as per standard practice and complete the Leave Request form available on your online account.

Symptoms range from common to severe respiratory illnesses and include:
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing

Many of these symptoms are similar to seasonal influenza. Should you experience these symptoms and have recently traveled internationally to an affected region, avoid contact with others and follow-up with your health care professional. Advise your health professional in advance of attending the clinic of your symptoms and travel history.

4. What can I do to protect myself?

As usual, continue to practice good hand washing techniques and hygiene practices. This includes washing thoroughly with soap and water, using hand sanitizer, coughing or sneezing into your elbow, and staying at home or in your residence room if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms. Avoid shaking hands, since the virus can be spread this way, consider greeting people from a distance with a wave.

5. Should I wear a mask?

For general, day-to-day activities, there is no need to wear a surgical or N95 mask. Public Health advises residents to take the usual measures to reduce the risk of influenza and other respiratory infections:

  • Clean your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water, or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze
  • If you don’t have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm
  • Stay at home if you are sick.
6. What does self-isolation mean?

Self-isolation means staying at home. Do not use public transportation, taxis, attend work, school, or other public places. Contact with others should be limited as much as possible.

7. Is the University increasing its cleaning?

Our Administrative staff is increasing the frequency of cleaning of high touch-points areas such as handrails, door handles, and public counters.

8. What is the University’s status?

The University remains open, but with various measures in place to protect the health and safety of community members. We remain committed to the core activity of teaching and the services to support these activities.

Libraries at Kardan University will be closed until further notice. All digital services remain operational and accessibility services will also be available.
