Kanishka Wahidi

Kanishka Wahidi is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Economics, Law and Social Sciences at the University of Erfurt in Germany. His PhD research focuses on the impact of economic growth on poverty and income inequality in Afghanistan during the years 2011-2016. An experienced economist and practitioner, he is an active member of the Centre for Empirical Research in Economics and Social Sciences (CEREB).

In addition to pursuing his doctorate program, Mr. Wahidi teaches the fundamentals of economics at the University of Erfurt. The University of Erfurt is a public university for the arts and humanities with a particular focus on cultural and social sciences. Founded in 1379, the school has acquired recognition due to the quantity and quality of its academic achievements in the fields of education, religion, and other key disciplines.

Mr. Wahidi completed his Bachelor of Economics at Kardan University during 2008 to 2012. He held the first position throughout his 4 years in his term and graduated with the highest CGPA. He was also awarded Gold Medal by the Minister of Higher Education of Afghanistan in 2013. Mr. Wahidi has more than 5 years of professional work experience in the field of development, governance and humanitarian aid.

He has worked in the ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) in Afghanistan. He also served in international NGOs, such as International Rescue Committee (IRC) and The Asia Foundation in Afghanistan. He recently worked as Head of Evaluation and Research Unit in the MRRD in Afghanistan.

In his free time, he enjoys reading books, travelling and sports like beach volleyball, swimming and hiking.
