The Center for Higher Education Development (CHED) at Kardan University, in alignment with its strategic objectives and aims to explore the prevailing practices, opportunities, and challenges related to the development, revision, and nationalisation of academic curricula in the country, is proud to announce its upcoming Annual Conference on Higher Education Development in Afghanistan (ACHEDA 2025), on ‘Reforming the Higher Education Curricula’ in Afghanistan.
The conference will bring together scholars, higher education experts, academic staff, and representatives from sectoral institutions and organisations, both from Afghanistan and from regional and international universities. Participants will present their research papers on the conference’s key thematic areas to establish effective mechanisms for designing, reviewing, and enriching curricula.
Through this platform, the conference aims to ensure that higher education curricula in Afghanistan are aligned with international standards and responsive to the comprehensive development needs of society, ultimately enhancing the competitiveness of Afghanistan’s higher education sector on the global stage.
Conference Goals
1. Develop a systematic and standardised process for the development, review, and enrichment of curricula based on international best practices, ensuring Afghanistan’s higher education sector responds to current issues and challenges.
2. Evaluate and propose reforms for higher education curricula in various fields of study, drawing from international experiences and best practices and
3. To promote research culture in society and provide researchers with an appropriate platform to present their work.
Conference Theme
The Notion of Islamization of Knowledge Vs the Notion of Integration of Knowledge:Global experiences about these notions; their relevance, lessons learnt, benefits, challenges, applicability and the way forward for Afghanistan.
Curricula Development/Review Process: A process overview based on international
experiences, including stakeholders involved in curriculum development; evaluation of
various models for curriculum design and review; mechanisms for assessing curriculum
effectiveness; strategies and mechanisms for curriculum evaluation and enrichment;
the role of online learning and technology in the design, review, and implementation of
curricula; mechanisms for identifying the spirit and philosophical orientation of curricula;
promoting intellectual development through curricula; the relationship between curricula
and the development of values and ethics; fostering analytical thinking and critical reasoning
through curricula; enhancing social skills; and advancing innovation and creativity through
curriculum design.
The Idea of One Nation-One Curricula: The feasibility, advantages, and disadvantages of
implementing a unified national curriculum; global experiences in developing a unified
curriculum and lessons learned from these processes; and curriculum models and
experiences from other countries.
The Afghan National Curricula: Standards for ensuring curriculum quality; methods and
approaches for evaluating curriculum effectiveness; evaluation of the implementation and
impact of national curricula; teaching strategies embedded within the curricula; integration
of technology and innovation into curriculum design; alignment of advanced technology
with instructional methods; current issues in curriculum implementation; and strategies for
effective curriculum implementation and evaluation.
Promotion of Interdisciplinary Curricula:History, current status, and future of
interdisciplinary curricula worldwide; opportunities, challenges and advantages of
promoting interdisciplinary curricula in Afghanistan; potential areas to focus on.
Key Deadlines:
Deadline for submitting the first draft of the paper: 25th July, 2025
Deadline for sharing reviewer feedback with researchers: 20th August, 2025
Deadline for submitting the final version of the paper: 10th September, 2025

Paper Submission Guidelines:
- Articles should be original, unpublished, and not include libellous, defamatory, or plagiarized material.
- Full papers should be sent as an MS Word attachment to acheda2025@kardan.edu.af
- Please include the full details in the paper, including the authors’ names, designation, affiliation, and contact details.
- A short biography of 50-100 words of the principal author/presenter must be included along with the full paper.
- Full papers must be at least 7000-8000 words including abstracts, figures, references, and appendices, if any.
- Citations in the manuscript should follow the IEEE for computer, IT, and Engineering fields, APA-style format for Economics and Management, and Chicago-style format for Social Sciences, Law, Humanities, Arts, and others.
- The above guidelines are specific to the conference. For publication purposes (if the paper is accepted for publication in any of the Kardan University journals), the guidelines of the respective journal shall apply.
- All submissions will be subjected to a plagiarism check for originality.
