Kardan University’s Faculty of Law conducted an open to the general public Facebook live session through Kardan University’s official Facebook Page on the Role of Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot or Vis Moot in Building Students’ Legal and Professional Capacities on June 30, 2021. Mr. Mohibullah Shaghasy, Moot Court Officer, hosted the session, and it was viewed and watched by thousands of people online through Kardan University’s Facebook page.

This session reflects Kardan University’s commitments towards achieving SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions and SDG 4: Quality Education in providing educational lectures virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic for the general public’s easy access to educational resources and building students’ legal and professional capacities.

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is a competition for law students to foster the study and practice of international commercial sales law and arbitration (VIS Moot, 2020).

Mohammad Nasir Rahmani, Kardan University’s former VIS Moot team member, shared his experience of the VIS Moot competition in Hong Kong and that he interacted with students and law experts and practitioners, and professors who represented more than 40 countries worldwide. He stated that the VIS Moot competition helped him to study, discuss, and provide solutions to commercial disputes arising from contracts among countries with international seasoned law experts and significantly added to his knowledge. He further explained that the competition is essential for law students if they want to have a practical and theoretical understanding of international arbitrations, be exposed to different points of view on the disputes, and have the disputes resolved in the presence of seasoned international law practitioners.

Mujibullah Stanikzai, a current Kardan University’s VIS Moot team member, stated that the competition is significant for building networks with experts worldwide, building confidence, and building students’ legal capacities.
