Kardan University, in collaboration with the UN Volunteers in Afghanistan, held an open to general public community educational event live through Kardan University's Facebook page on volunteerism, becoming a UN Volunteer, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on June 10, 2021.
In this session, delegates from the UN volunteers gave all the necessary information to the general public watching the live session regarding how to become UN Volunteers and participate in the advancement and institutionalization of the SDGs in Afghanistan. The session was then followed by a speech on Kardan University's achievement towards accomplishing the SDGs in Afghanistan.
Mr. Aimal Feroz Zalland, UNV's Country Coordinator in Afghanistan, mentioned that volunteerism is the cornerstone of the 2030 agenda and recognized volunteers as critical stakeholders to achieve the SDGs. Mr. Zalland added that volunteerism is required to become a culture, particularly among youth in Afghanistan. It has to be institutionalized in all developmental plans and policies in the country.
Mr. Mohammad Shams Formuly, Kardan University's Sustainability Engagement Coordinator, stated that Kardan University, as the first University in Afghanistan ranked in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, has made significant contributions to integrate and tackle the SDGs in the community. Namely, establishing the first Sustainability Office, Center for Higher Education Development, and the SDGs Youth Ambassadors Club at the University.
