During Online Information Session on Volunteerism and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Afghanistan

Kardan University, in collaboration with the UN Volunteers (UNV), held an online information session on 'Volunteerism and Integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)' in Afghanistan on Thursday, October 22, 2020.

Delegates from the UNV, Ministry of Economy, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and Kardan University's SDGs Youth Ambassadors attended the session. The representatives discussed and explained how our SDGs youth Ambassadors could become a volunteer with the UN agencies and participate in the current opportunities available to nationalize, localize, and implement SDGs in Afghanistan.

Mr. Zahir Ayube, Kardan University's Chief of Staff, welcomed the speakers and talked about the University's sustainability achievements and the plans to accomplish the SDGs, including a national conference symposium on the SDGs. He also stressed on the collaboration with NGOs to create a synergy in achieving the SDGs in Afghanistan. Mr. Ayube thanked the UNV for registering our current students and Alumni as UN Volunteers.

"To utilize and stream the technical resources within the UNV towards achieving the SDGs and implementing them in Afghanistan, we need to expand our partnership with higher education institutions such as Kardan University", said Aimal Feroz Zalland, UNV's Country Coordinator in Afghanistan.

Mr. Hafizullah Hasif, Communication and Advocacy Officer at UNDP, pointed out the lack of measurement and statistics of SDGs and the challenges SDG4: Partnerships for the Goals are facing in Afghanistan. He also highlighted the importance of researching the SDGs, integrating them in higher education, and conducting dialogues around the SDGs.
