On Thursday, January 09, 2019 the BBA department organized a study tour of the Turquoise Mountain Organization and their operations.
Turquoise Mountain Organization focuses on preserving and regenerating areas and communities with rich cultural and historical heritage as well as reviving traditional crafts, creating jobs and skills and eventually a renewed sense of pride. Since its establishment in 2006, it has restored 150 historic buildings, trained over 6,000 artisans, treated almost 120,000 patients, graduated hundreds of talented artisans, and generated over $6m in international sales from customers like Kate Spade to London’s Connaught Hotel. Turquoise Mountain has also curated major international exhibitions around the world; from the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
TM has now built over 50 small businesses in Afghanistan, Myanmar, and the Middle East, supporting a new generation of artisan entrepreneurs who will not only drive economic development, but also preserve their unique cultures and traditions.
After the study tour, an informative survey was done through observational study of the visiting students about business operations, procedures, products and marketing activities at TM. The students’ feedback was highly positive and they had a great learning opportunity with a questions and answers session. The organization unveiled different activities of the business like woodwork, art painting, gemstone work and other crafts.
56 students, led by BBA Academic Administrator, Mr. Fawad Asim and lecturers Ms. Maryam Shakir and Mr. Abdul Khaliq Khan Shinwari, participated in the tour for Entrepreneurship and Sales Management subjects.
