Curriculum revision/development is a strategic, continuing and structured process that has a broader scope. The development of the curriculum and its continuous revision is highly significant to better respond to the social, economic, environmental and political transitions, where the societal needs are considered as the chief element of consideration in this process.
Kardan University is committed to a progressive process of curriculum improvement to ensure alignment with national and international academic standards and develop the most innovative curriculum that profoundly fulfills the needs of the society.
In pursuit of our commitment to have and an up-to-date curriculum fully aligned with national and international academic standards, the office of Vice Chancellor for Academics proposed the initiation of curriculum revision to the Academic Council of the University. Upon the approval of the Academic Council, a series of University-wide consultative meetings members of the University Curriculum Revision Committee. The curriculum revision that started in August 2018 is entirely focused on the following areas:
• Enrichment of the curriculum as per the needs of the local job market
• International benchmarking
• Curriculum design based on the model of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Students Centered Learning (SCL)
The process of Curriculum Revision
To identify the strength and weaknesses of the existing curriculum, the Deans and Academic Administrators were assigned to develop survey questionnaires for the current senior students and alumni. Furthermore, customized surveys were designed for local employers to better understand the local market needs and link the curriculum to the industry needs. Survey data were analyzed by the Department of Research and Development and results were shared with The Curriculum Revision Committee members for the curriculum review process. A comprehensive international benchmarking was conducted to analyze standardized national and international curriculums, compare and improve the contents, pedagogical and assessment methods of the existing curriculum based on the findings.
After a series of meetings and consultations with the faculty member, the head of the Curriculum Revision Committees at department-level developed and presented their proposed curriculum to the Curriculum Revision Committee at the University-Level.
The Curriculum Revision Committee at the University-Level was further classified into smaller expert groups to closely work with each educational department and improve the proposed curriculum.
The first draft of the revised curriculum is prepared for the revision of the Academic Council of the University. Following the proceedings of the Academic Council, the proposals will be presented to the Expert Workshop consisted of the (Deans, faculty members, students, alumni, industry leaders and officials of the Ministry of Higher Education). The Consultative Expert Workshop is intended to gain input and feedback from the stakeholders and further enrich the revised curriculum before the implementation.
