Kardan University's Sustainable Development Goals Youth Ambassadors club members convened on March 4, 2021, at the Kardan School of Graduate Studies to address the SDGs in Afghanistan.
In the meeting, the SDGs Youth Ambassadors discussed SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. They identified that quality education, foreign and local investments, and a controlling and reporting system over developmental projects are essential to accomplish the four above-mentioned SDGs in Afghanistan.
The SDGs Youth Ambassadors considered education as a key to achieving the four SDGs in Afghanistan. The Ambassadors believe that to alleviate poverty, foster economic development, and ensure responsible consumption and production in the business practices in our nation, Afghanistan needs to eliminate the roots of illiteracy, provide quality education opportunities and build the mindset of entrepreneurship in the university students."
Considering the businesses' irresponsible resource consumption and contamination, CO2 emissions, and inadequate sanitation system, the need for sustainability experts is felt more than ever before to make plans, strategies, and policies both for the businesses and government to ensure sustainable practices. The ambassadors also emphasized eliminating barriers against foreign direct investment, supporting local investors, and creating a proper control mechanism over the developmental projects in Afghanistan to boost economic development and reduce poverty.
At the end of the session, Mr. Rohullah Hassanyar, Student Involvement and Success Officer explained future SDGs activities for the SDGs Youth Ambassadors, which will be organized in collaboration with other organizations working for the SGDs in Afghanistan.
SDGs Youth Ambassadors Club at Kardan University comprises 15 active students from across different academic disciplines. They participate in the designing, planning, and implementing SDGs activities at the university and the local community levels.
