Kardan University signed an agreement with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the ACB’s conference room to sponsor an ODI series against Ireland to be held on 21, 24, and 26 January, 2021 in Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League matches. The agreement was signed by Mr. Mirwais Nahzat, Kardan University’s Chief Operating Officer, and Mr. Rahmtaullah Qureishi, ACB’s CEO. Kardan University earned the Title Sponsorship of the upcoming ODI series against Ireland in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Based on the agreement, the series is officially titled “Kardan University Cup 2021”. Kardan University sponsored this series to further motivate Afghanistan’s national cricket players and to prepare them for the upcoming international championships. As per the agreement, Kardan University will also finance the Player of the Match award for each match and the Player of the Series award.
Mr. Mirwais Nahzat stated that Kardan University is proud to sponsor the upcoming ODI series against Ireland. “We are committed to inspiring and motivating the national cricket team players”
Mr. Qureishi, ACB’s CEO, welcomed the agreement between both sides and added,” I express my thanks to the leadership of Kardan University who have invested in Afghanistan’s cricket. ACB commits itself to further such cooperation with Kardan University in the future as well.”
Kardan University established a Cricket Club in 2013 with the participation of students from different programs. This club is one of the most successful sports clubs of Kardan University. The members of this club are talented individuals such as Mr. Imran Mohammadi, who is part of Afghanistan Under-19 squad, having remarkable achievements and success. The U-19 team won the Asia Cup and qualified for the ICC U-19 cricket world cup 2018, where they reached Semi-finals.
Moreover, we have Mr. Sayed Rahman Ahmadzai as senior Coach for the Kardan University cricket club. Mr. Ahmadzai has more than 10 years of experience working with the national cricket team and has represented the country as wicket keeper from 2006 – 2009. He is currently working with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) as a domestic selector.
