For the first time among Kabul universities, Kardan University celebrated World Food Day on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at its Parwan-e-Du Campus. Hundreds of students participated in this event and tasted some authentic and traditional Afghan foods prepared by student and alumni teams who had set up display and sales stalls for the occasion.
Zabiullah, an alumnus of Kardan University, who had served ‘Haffth Mewa’ stated, “We appreciate the organization of such events where, along with having fun, I earned a good income by selling Haffth Mewa from my stall.”
This was a great opportunity for BBA and Economics students to experiment with sales management and attracting customers in a real-life setting.
“Kardan University provided a unique opportunity for its students and alumni. Besides the fact that we could sell our hand-cooked products, it was an entertaining social gathering for participants and visitors,” said Basira Karimi, a BBA student, who served ‘Sheer Berenge’ at this food festival.
Ajmal Nabizada, Manager, Student Involvement and Events, and organizer of this initiative said, “In addition to celebrating World Food Day, we created this special event for our students so that they could improve their cooking skills and put their marketing knowledge in practice. After consuming the hand-cooked food, students suggested us to introduce more of such initiatives in the future.”
The event went on until 5:00 PM, in which some 80 individuals had registered to put up food stalls, and earned considerable income by selling their food products. It is worth mentioning that an episode of the TOLO TV show, ‘Mehman-e-Yar’was also recorded at the event.
