40 Under 40 Award Winners

Farhad Afzali

Mohammad Farhad Afzali was the first student to graduate from Kardan University with a Bachelor of Computer Science. He was named the Gold Medallion of his batch by securing a GPA of 3.97 and was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to complete his Master of Science in Management Information Systems at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Farhad completed his Master’s degree with a GPA of 4.0 and went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Information Technology at UNO. As a doctoral student, Farhad is part of the instructional team teaching Java programming and database classes. He is currently the president of Bioinformatics and Information Technology graduate students group at UNO.

In 2007, Farhad worked with the International Rescue Committee as a Database Officer prior to joining the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in 2008. He worked for UNAMA for six years as an Application Developer. While at UNAMA, Farhad was deployed to United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali for three months where he helped set up the newly established mission. He left UNAMA in 2014 when he moved to the United States of America to continue his education.
